A lot has been made about how The Wrestler is Mickey Rourke’s comeback, and there is no mistaking that is true. But at a NY press day for the film Sunday, it was apparent a much larger comeback is coming on full throttle these days. It’s even extended beyond movie stars.
Darren Aronofsky is likely to land an Oscar nomination for his docu-style behind the camera, but yesterday in Manhattan, the guy’s face took center stage. The Brooklyn-born filmmaker sported a nicely groomed pushbroom. I had the good fortune to chat staches with him yesterday. Here’s his explanation… oh and don’t fret we’ll have more with Darren later this week.
“Probably because Brad Pitt has one in Inglorius Basterds. I bumped into him like a couple weeks ago, saw it and made fun of it…You know what’s so strange. What happened is I was just screwing around,” he explained.
“I had been on the road promoting the film, and I came back and had scrub and Rachel (Weisz) my partner was like ‘go shave right now.’ I shaved and she loved it. She just went crazy over it, and she’s like ‘never, ever shave.’ I’m totally stuck with it for a while.”
As we made way toward more gripping and grappling conversation, Aronofsky wrapped it up with a parting shot. “Hopefully, eventually she’ll grow out of it. It was a prank gone bad.”
