On Tuesday night I had the opportunity to fulfill a childhood dream of mine: to photograph Hanson (my first favorite band EVER) in concert. Two nights earlier, the brother-band was sick. So sick in fact, that they had to cancel a few shows. Now, being the Hanson fan that I am… I was worried. Luckily, my anxiety was in vain and I had my first glimpse of my childhood crush (Hi Zac, I love you) from the photo pit of the Best Buy Theater in NYC.
Hanson’s Musical Ride Tour, in which the fans vote on the set list, brings new meaning to the saying “give the people what they want”. The concept is simple, really: fans vote on which album they want to hear and then Hanson plays it, along with a few of their more undeniable hits. One of the highlights of the show for many fans, was actually not something that they voted on: a sudden interlude of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” that included Isaac playfully pulling off his tie and unbuttoning a few buttons of his shirt. I’m pretty sure girls are going to be dreaming of that moment for weeks.
Other highlights from the set list included a few of my personal favorite songs: “Give A Little”, “Penny and Me”, and of course (you didn’t think I’d get through this without mentioning it at least once, did you?) “MMMBop”.
