A pipe dream promo… for me anyway.
Don’t be surprised if the Brooklyn (by way of Israel) duo of Hank & Cupcakes cut through to the mainstream shortly after you read this. With their high energy, unique sultry pop-rock-dance sound, and quirky moniker, they’ve got all the tools to propel them to pop rock stations all over.
The musicians, who will only cop to their real names off camera – if that, are touring regularly to promote their recently released self-titled EP. Tour dates include a 101.9 RXP show at Brooklyn Bowl on Sept. 29 and a benefit concert with Deluka and more at The Studio at Webster Hall on Oct. 15. For full dates, check out their website.
I met up with the sweet on and offstage couple fittingly at an Upper West Side Crumbs (yes, they have cupcakes), and asked them about their music, their name, their debut full-length album in the works, and where they see themselves in the pop landscape.

The new band Terrible Things have enough of an interesting back story that success is almost irrelevant. Well, not exactly but the subject of their debut album matched with past experiences of two of its members sure would make one hell of a rock-and-roll themed afterschool special one day.
Fred Mascherino and Josh Eppard both left their highly successful bands at arguably the height of their fame. For Mascherino, lead guitarist for Taking Back Sunday, it was to pursue other creative endeavors. For drummer Eppard? He left Coheed & Cambria due to a drug addiction. Together with Hot Rod Circuit Andy Jackson, the duo have been recharged and ready for stardom with their debut album, which is about fires that ravaged Mascherino’s former hometown of Coatesville, PA. Not exactly the feel-good album of the year, but definitely a powerhouse.
I spoke with Mascherino and Eppard, and asked them to discuss their concept album, their formation of a new band, and of course, the impacts of leaving their previous bands at their respective peaks.
SPW want you to attend their headlining shows. You’ve seen them with Gaga, now go gaga over them alone. Hey, that worked. Anyway, here’s a call out to all fans of thecheappop.com! Any FYI – get all your tickets to SPW headlining shows here: http://www.semipreciousweapons.com/events/
I know I’ll be there Oct. 8 at Irving Plaza in NYC.
Guitar Center’s new live series starts off with the icon… he’s looking scary but his music is still fn awesome.
Check out the interview soon, buckos!
If you’re going to Tokyo, a city rich in Japanese culture and exploding with pop culture treasures, you might as well completely live it up and indulge yourself in the Ritz-Carlton located in Tokyo’s entertainment/business central Roppongi District. Conveniently located near the subway station and within steps of hybrid offerings like temples and karaoke bars, the hotel was a significant standout in my recent week-plus long stay in Japan. But, let’s focus on what’s inside the hotel shall we? Continue reading

The boys from the Left Coast were the first of many bands to approach the web-toed wonder about an interview with the J-i-O.
This weekend, some of the most legendary rock bands of all time descend upon Oklahoma City for the musical mayhem known as Rock N America. The Scorpions, Twisted Sister, Ratt, Warrant, Lita Ford, and so many more, including one of TheCheapPop’s new favorite bands, Boston-based Pretty Little Suicide. We met these guys at a Semi Precious Weapons show in Boston, and have since partied with them in 3 different states on 2 sides of the country. These hombres love to drink, and much more importantly, they’ve written a collection of tunes that will transport you back to the party days of the 1980s when Rock and Roll was all about playing hard, drinking lots, and using a fish to bang groupies.
We caught up with them in Vegas, and here’s just a taste of the video gold that we captured. Yes, some of the footage is dark, but I shot this at night, so quit being a snob otherwise Grammy Plot is gonna give you her trademark uppercut to the grundle.
