Chris Chu is so likable; you almost have to dislike him. The lead singer for the much-buzzed band the morning benders (intentionally lowercase’d by the way) has two acclaimed albums out – the recently released “Big Echo” is especially catching fire, and is currently selling out tours whether his band’s headlining or warming up. Yet, despite all that, the 25 year old seems like a chill, low-key guy (note the monotone interview below) living a mellow life in the midst of a chaos. At least, so he says. In an interview earlier this month, I spoke with the grounded singer/songwriter from an East Village hotel rooftop and asked him all about the band’s burgeoning success.
Case in point: the band just wrapped up a headlining tour and will hit the road this summer supporting Broken Bells and The Black Keys. To quote Adam Sandler – “not too shabby.”
