The American Mustache Institute (AMI) will name the 2009 “Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year,” recognizing the person best contributing to the Mustached American way of life over the past year, on Oct. 30 at ‘Stache Bash 2009 featuring John Oates. Nearly 100 nominations were submitted for the 2009 “Goulet” award, and AMI’s certified mustacheologists narrowed the finalists to 18. Jon Chattman is one of them. Vote him here.
She’s a comic, writer, radio talk show, and as far as I know, the only person to interview anyone in a bathtub (well, her bathtub anyway). She’s Sara Benincasa, and she’s in a word: frickin’ amazing. OK, that’s two words. The comedienne arguably isn’t a household name just yet but she will be – trust me, bub. Thus far, you’ve seen her as a citizen journalist for the 2008 MTV Choose or Lose Street Team, Huffington Post’s humor site 23/6, and Nerve.com to name a few (the aforementioned “Tub Talk with Sara B.” aired there).
She also has staged two acclaimed shows “Family Hour with Auntie Sara” and “Agorafabulous” in NYC, and talks about sex (imagine that word in the tone of Adam Sandler’s vintage “are these people having…seeeex or weight lifting sketch” and it’s pretty funny) on Cosmo Radio’s “Get in Bed” (Sirius 111/XM162) every night from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m. Speaking of which, I should call in. But first, here’s the interview with Benincasa, who I might add is hosting the First Annual Westchester Stache Off in White Plains, NY on Nov. 14. Continue reading
Jon Chattman, co-author of the recently released humor book, SWEET ‘STACHE: 50 Badass Mustaches and the Faces Who Sport Them, has thrown down the gauntlet and announced Westchester’s First Annual ‘Stache-Off to be held November 14 from 7-10PM at the Music Conservatory of Westchester in White Plains.
A SWEET ‘STACHE book signing and performances from some of the Music Conservatory of Westchester’s ensembles and faculty will precede the countywide mustache contest.
Open to all mustaches of Westchester, ‘Stache-Off features prizes from Sam Ash, Movember.com, TheCheapPop.com, and many more to be named. Partial proceeds from the contest will benefit the Conservatory’s scholarships and tuition assistance.
“Westchester County is known for a variety of scenic treasures, but the best of all is the face scenery on county men who sport ravishing push brooms from the Hudson to the Sound to all around,” Chattman explained. Continue reading
For the second year in a row, The Chicago Cubs were eliminated in three straight games in the first round of the National League playoffs last year. Whether it was poor offense, mediocre defense, or negative energy the Wrigley Field crowd were giving off (the latter of which isn’t very likely), there were many reasons why this happened to the so-called “team to beat.” For 2009, I suggest a way to break the 100-year-old curse. It’s time to bring back some Chicago ‘staches. Many Chicago legends (Dennises Franz and Farina, Mike Ditka…we could go on) had mustaches in their hey day, and a move to grow some caterpillars might actually help right this September/October sinking ship.
Skipper Lou Pinella once dyed his hair blonde to prove a point – why not shift focus in Chicago from blond highlights to over-the-lip fuzz? To support my case, here are 10 standout players who rocked the ‘stache in the Windy City for the Cubbies. In the meantime, leave Bartman and that tool who spilled beer on Shane Victorino alone.
I’ll be a special guest on the News 12 Morning Show – Westchester today after 9:30 a.m. Just another Manic Mustache Monday.

In a bold move, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently decided to place more rigid qualifications for its Best Original Song category. Academy voters will now rank songs and only those that average an 8.25 out of a scale of 6-to-10 will make the cut. If no songs average that score, then the Academy will skip the category for the year. Blame Three 6 Mafia.
If a man has a mustache, it’s hands-down his most distinguishable facial feature. Whether it’s a handlebar, pencil-thin, fu Manchu, toothbrush, or horseshoe—it’s how’s he’s identified and described. This book recognizes this fact and celebrates the most famous mustaches—and the faces behind them. From politicians and ball players to pop stars and actors, this book covers them all with wit and humor. Authors Jon Chattman and Rich Tarantino have provided profiles and ‘stache-analysis for the forty-nine men and one woman who made the cut. (One can’t count out Frida Kahlo’s artistic bigote!) It also includes sidebar lists that rank the top ‘staches in all sorts of categories as well as mustache trivia and a timeline that traces the facial hair’s evolution. It’s hip again to rock full on facial hair. And Sweet ‘Stache is the guide for anyone looking to get in on the must-have mustache action.
