When we last interviewed Tom Pino, vocalist/guitarist for Ghosts of Eden, he expressed his desire to get his band’s newest and best music out into the world ASAP. That time finally came on Friday night. The band celebrated the release of Something (Kinetic) with a headlining performance at the legendary Mercury Lounge in front of a SOLD OUT crowd. Following the performance, Pino gave his thoughts. “the show was simply amazing. Our first sold out show, and the crowd was so loud and really into it.” He continued, saying that “it was a perfect night. Everyone had fun and we had fun and it was all about the music which proves that rock and roll is still alive.”
Since it was a record release show, the album’s tracks were featured heavily during the band’s set. Further expanding GoE’s signature “velvet grunge” sound, Something (Kinetic) kicks off with powerful riffs, bitchin guitar solos, and just a dollop of handclaps on K.M.A., a track which has the band declaring that ” we’re starting a war tonight”. The EP’s third track, Halo, describes the plight of the proverbial “good” man with beautifully contradicting lyrical imagery as he keeps “waging war with [his] halo.” (You can download the track FOR FREE right here, but we highly recommend not being a bitch and purchasing the full EP). During the sure-to-be-stuck-in-your-head refrain at the end of In Motion, the album’s closing track, Pino states that “all we know is we’re still here alive”, a lyric which creates a sense of ambiguity as to the result of the war that has been fought throughout the album, but perhaps leaves us with the notion that there’s an inherent sense of victory just for seeing it through.
Following the show, one sweat-drenched concergoer was overheard tellingher friend that she felt like Ghosts of Eden “just came all over my soul, and I never want to wash it off.” GoE are going to spend the summer continuing to cement their reputation as a must-see live act here in NYC, while also staking their claim on the music scenes in Boston and Philly. Catch them now, because we have a feeling that GoE will soon be busy on location, touring round the nation.
