A woman stopped me in Downtown Chicago and asked me to sign a petition and save a whale. I didn’t think anything of it until I went to the John G. Shedd Aquarium/Oceanarium along S. Lake Shore Drive. The aquarium, which is an amazing experience for adults and kids alike, includes Beluga whales that will astonish you and make you appreciate the mammals. I mean, seriously, if only that lady stopped me after I went here. Anyway, I digress. The Shedd has more to awe you with. It has the world’s largest collection (indoors anyway) of aquatic mammals, amphibians, invertebrates, fish and reptiles.
The “Wild Reef” at the Shedd is an amazing exhibition with sharks and rare species. Back to the Beluga, the Shedd’s three million gallon Oceanarium will take your breath away – with the aforementioned whales, dolphins, and sea otters roaming around along with seals and penguins. If that weren’t enough, the Shedd offers a 4D interactive movie experience for you and your kids and a whole lot more. I’m barely touching the surface here.
