As featured in yesterday’s Journal News and Patch stories, thecheappop.com presented its Acoustic Sleigh Ride concert at White Plains’ Music Conservatory of Westchester with J. Aims, New Collisions, and Talking to Walls on Tuesday.
I’m going to release a song called “I wish I could dance kind of sort of good.”
NYC singer/songwriter Tim Williams is releasing his second album “Careful Love” in October. If the album cover is any indication, it’s going to be great. Anyways, check out an acoustic version of “Bruises” off his EP “I Hit Another Wall.” This guy is frickin awesome.
Company of Thieves’s a live acoustic version of “Even in the Dark.” It’s so good it’ll make you want to help them “eat food.”
Three albums in Ray LaMontagne has lost none of his soulful appeal. Like his first two releases Gossip in the Grain is jazzy, rough and filled with a deep melancholy. More than ever however, the music here is also, on occasion, fun. For the most part LaMontagne’s songs are still the resonant poetry that fans have come to expect, but this time around he is mixes it up with the genres a little more and produces music that runs the gamut from ethereal to playful. His lyrics cover the usual singer-songwriter fare topically but they remain exceptionally well-written and convincingly expressed. Most impressively LaMontagne maintains this level of quality throughout the album, producing music that is not only affecting but also consistently listenable and frequently surprising.
