Since “Sweet Stache” was released many of you have sent me photos of the book in exotic locations. In a new feature on the “pop” I’ll be posting the pics. No Photoshop here – these photos were really taken. Think of it as sort of those Stew Leonards bags – if you know Stews you [...]
Rich Tarantino and I attended “Stache Bash” in St. Louis on Oct. 30. It was a splendid time of staches and booze – all for a good cause. Just as AMI’s event winds down, another fuzzy event takes off. Movember started yesterday – take a look at what they do here.
Jon Chattman and Rich Tarantino, the authors behind Sweet Stache, will be on hand for the American Mustache Institute’s ‘Stache Bash this weekend in St. Louis AKA the Home of Keith Hernandez’s 1970s mustache. Chattman will also be on hand to host the best ’stache-oriented costume of the evening. For more info, visit here.
The Molly Pitcher Inn and Oyster Point Hotel, sister locations almost side-by-side overlooking the Navesink River in Red Bank, are musts if you’re staying in the area or planning a function. I lost count of the weddings I saw come in and out of the place (OK maybe it was the same wedding with guests [...]
There’s a lot to do in Kevin Smith’s hometown of Red Bank. I’m going to focus on the shops today, because that’s what I found pretty darn phenomenal. Obviously as the photo above indicates, the filmmaker’s store is rich in all things Kevin Smith. There’s shirts, hats, and even bumper stickers of his films [...]
Even on a cloudy day taking in the Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook at the Atlantic Highlands was rewarding. At 266 feet, the site sits on the highlighest point on the East Coast. The 12-acre park also features Monmouth County’s 9/11 Memorial which is fitting since you’re staring across to the Manhattan skyline. Overall, the Atlantic [...]
The “pop” stopped in Red Bank, NJ and around the Garden State. Stay tuned for some highlights from the trip.
A unique tour in the Windy City is the Bike and Roll Chicago. Offering bike rentals and tours as well as segway tours along 20 miles of lakefront trails is an awesome way to view the city. Staffed by experienced and friendly locals, who explain what you’re seeing as you cruise by, this sightseeing [...]
I’m a Cameron Frye kind of guy so I was psyched to visit the Art Institute of Chicago where that character’s favorite painting – Georges Seurat’s A Sunday of La Grande Jatte – was on display. The museum is more than just a one-painting wonder. The amazing collections span 5,000 years and together with the [...]
Indulge yourself at renowned chef David Burke’s 616 N. Rush Street location in Chicago. The restaurant is a culinary treasure featuring hand-picked meats from Creekstone Farms in Kentucky that are all dry-aged on the premises in a Himalayan salt-tiled aging room. Everything about this restaurant is impressive – from the contemporary decor to the impeccable [...]
Conveniently (a mile from the Willis Tower and just over a mile to the Navy Pier), Best Western River North Hotel on Ohio Street was a terrific experience. Despite the fact they’re renovating (fitness center was closed therefore the deep dish pizza didn’t get burned off), the hotel matched many upper scale hotels in the [...]
“Hey!” This guy doesn’t exactly nail it, but it was pretty funny stuff.
I haven’t had a beef hot dog in over a decade so my decision to go for a Chicago-style dog at Wrigley Field was a big decision. Boiled but not broiled, it was a wonderful tasty experience that made my stomach cry but my heart dance. Served on a poppy seed bun [...]
Who needs Sardi’s when you have Petterino’s? Located in the heart of Chicago’s theatre district, this city landmark, which like the aforementioned New York institution has famous caricatures on its walls (in this case actors who have performed in the Windy City and politicos), offers impeccable service, delectable food and an impressive – not to [...]
At the Borders on Michigan Avenue, I couldn’t help but spot a fine book that’s been changing the lives of millions of men and some women. I also couldn’t help but admire Max for his “staff pick.” Thanks Max whoever you may be.
