If I could sum up my stay at the Howard Johnson Hotel by Disneyland Park in one word, it’d be convenience. You can get anywhere in the Disney downtown area by a short drive or a long walk from the hotel and avoid the traffic either way. Some 30 restaurants are within steps of your room (GardenWalk has some great spots), as is the Anaheim Resort District, and more importantly, both Disneyland and California Adventure Parks. It was such a joy not to have to stress over the commute.
In terms of the hotel itself, it might surprise you with how much it has to offer. The weather was ho-hum and chilly while I was in town but that didn’t stop parents from taking their children to the pool and water park. Yep, Castaway Cove is a pirate-themed water playground for kids. In terms of the room, it was clean, spacious and fairly updated. Some other perks include complimentary wifi throughout the facility, complimentary parking, and a 24-hour front desk staff who were always accommodating (case in point: one staffer suggested we avoid Disney parking because it’s just an eight minute walk to and from the hotel – great suggestion!) Kudos also go to the general manager of the hotel who helped guide me throughout Anaheim before I touched ground in LAX.
On another note, I really liked the hotel’s gift shop aka Main St. Market which opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m. Those hours really helped with us purchasing breakfast to swag and typically during what usually are off hours. Howard Johnson is affordable, close to the action, and a great place for family to see what Anaheim has to offer — which is a lot.
