Jake Pavelka, for all intents and purposes, has finally taken off. After almost a year in the spotlight..the pilot turned bachelor turned potential ballroom dancer was actually rejected by someone..ok,a whole bunch of someones. Whether it was a lackluster rhythym-less Samba that he failed to connect to,or a Swing dance that he was booted from immediately;something finally made the fams say enough. (Final score-25) Which leaves only two men to rely soley on talent and testosterone to carry them to the finals in a month. This week the remaining dancers began their 2-dance nights with either the Argentine Tango or Samba & the Swing Dance Marathon. A subdued Donny Osmond sat in the audience looking on to see who will be his successor and since the events earlier this year with his family;it was so hard to watch and not think of the Donny he was 6 months ago.
Chad/Cheryl (Argentine Tango/Swing): If there was a potential to rank as high of near quality with this dance among the likes of Donny and Giles Marini,I would have to say this is up there. In his best dance all season, Ochocinco took the intiative and grew by leaps and bounds in a strong and demented routine that proved he may now be the darkhorse this season after all. (AT-24/30; S-7. Final Score 31).
Nicole/Derek (Samba/Swing):Ok,so this wasn’t the crazy Brazilian dance party she thought it was going to be..but despite her misconceptions and tweaking out, Nicole delivered another strong performance that had Len chastizing Derek on lack of traditional moves, Carrie-Ann concerned about her facial expressions, and Bruno just giving her the 10 for showing up. Her night continued as she was the last cat standing during the Swing Dance Marathon. (S-26/30; S-10. Final Score 36).
Niecy/Louis (Argentine Tango/Swing): This duo continues to be the groundbreakers of the season with the first ever comedic dance to an emotional and serious theme..food. It was a dance that showcased her new attitude, more dance moves, and yet it seemed to lack some chemistry. Girlfriend’s time may almost be up…but damn she’s taking us for a memorable ride in one of my favorite routines this season by any competitior. (AT-21/30: S-5. Final Score 26).
Evan/Anna (Samba/Swing): The Olympian met his match this week, and it wasn’t from Russia or Japan. Recovering from a mild concussion brought on during rehearsal of the Swing; Evan still managed to continue to lyrically impress the judges, even if this dance seemed to balletic for his signature moves. Despite it all, he reminded me of Adrien Brody from that SNL sketch when he played the ballroom dance instructor..(S-21/30;S-6. Final Score 27).
Erin/Maks (Samba/Swing): If anything Maks had to worry about this week, it was Erin putting him in an asylum for her continuous overanalysis of things. Evem if Len had something crawled up inside him and mutating over the tiresome shirt removal and Erin being too good for schtick. In Erin’s most amazing dance next to the bondage routine, she nailed it yet again. (S-25/30; S-9. Final Score 34).
Pam/Damian (Argentine Tango/Swing): Pam was on a mission to kill this dance even if it meant using the token brunette wig. She proved once again she can do smoldering, sensuality, and living the part. Her bottom half was all kinds of loose and disjointed however. (AT-22/30; S-8. Final Score 30).
