The photo above is a view from the John Hancock Center’s Observatory, which I must say, offers the best view of the city – bar none. It’s so incredible it made me almost forget about my vertigo. In the middle of Michigan Avenue, this towering building is a must when you visit the Windy City. The fascinating structure – 1,000 ft up – boasts a 360-degree view across the great state of Illinois as well as Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
When you take the Skywalk tour, you hook into a Palm-type device and headphones that talk you through what you’re seeing as you walk. Narrated by David Schwimmer (see he really will be “there for you”) the tour goes through Chicago’s history (Bruce Graham and Fazlur Khan created this fascinating skyscraper) in a fast, breezy way that never impedes on your experience – it only enhances the spectacular views you’re already seeing. An extra perk? Cafe Expression which boasts great coffee and calorie-driven sweets.
