Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew: Days 4-7

Tawny Kitaen Pictures, Images and Photos

By Lisa Cannavo

The Tawny Kitaen we knew from 20 years ago…

As the first week of a new sober beginning for the patients came to an end;  Dr. Drew in his infinite wisdom suggested an outing with several of the patients to do something on a social setting that does not involve drugs/alcohol. And what better way than to head to a lake to fish or putter around on a speed boat? With Jeff and Amber still coming off detox, and Gary Busey being Gary Busey..you knew this was going to get interesting. As Nikki, Rodney, and Tawny fished; Steven, Sean, and Captain Missing Frontal Lobe cruised around the lake, and eventually capsized. The incident frazzled Steven, immediately reaching to protect his head from the motor. Once ashore, the drummer seemed to be skittish; but with Sean behind him and Dr. Drew and Shelley talking it through with him; Steven’s anger ceased slightly. The lesson learned..you can remain sober in stressful situations; even with Gary behind the wheel of a boat.

Dr. Drew sat down with Rodney for the conversation we all wanted to hear about: What happened that night? Turns out that the humble and human former bank robber told the story of how he may have had a parole violation and was more excited on the prospects of starting a new job and his life over than going back to jail. As would any former felon who wanted to turn his life around. What happened next..everyone knows. But as Rodney makes the start of reacquainting himself with a trauma; Dr. Drew notes that he needed to be successful in the dealing of the issue or there was always that chance Rodney would slide back into his state of alcohol dependency. Nevertheless, Rodney had no qualms in admitting he was an addict and was ready to beat this once and for all.

Tawny met with Dr. Drew for her one-on-one to begin her tale of being a product of divorced parents and welfare. Wanting to begin a new life, she dropped her given name of “Julie” after seeing a classmate with the name of Tawny. From then on, that was what she wanted to be known as. However, when Dr. Drew asked if he could call her by Julie, Tawny seemed touched and agreed to it. Her journey is slowly becoming one that I am truly getting to see firsthand. She is also being seen as a woman whose future starts her and now.

An intervention of sorts was held for Gary to get him to realize that he is part of the group; and not just the “participant” as his contract had stipulated. What proved interesting in his head injury was that beyond the damage to his filtering concept in his brain, but the circuit that can trigger any abuse:chemical or any other. Also affected:impulsive words/actions. Suffice to say, he still scares me. He wanted to be part of the group; but was having troubles processing some offerings and words of that nature being presented to him. There may have been a breakthrough with him and Tawny when he admitted of sorts that he was human and wanted to give this a true go-around.
