The Cheap Pop Says Goodbye to Yankee Stadium:Top 13 Moments at the House That Ruth Built

As the New York Yankees play their final game at “The House That Ruth Built” tomorrow, we at thecheappop would like to share some of our favorite memories of the stadium. Here are our top 15 favorite moments at Yankee Stadium.

1. October 20, 2004: The Boston Red Sox defeat the Yankees by a score of 10-3, becoming the first team in Major League Baseball history to win a seven-game postseason series after losing the first three games.
2. October 25, 2003: Josh Beckett shuts out the Yankees in a complete game, striking out nine batters and gives the Florida Marlins their second World Series win in seven years. He cliches the series by tagging Jorge Posada for the final out.
3.October 10, 1926: St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Yankees, and win the World Series after Babe Ruth is thrown out stealing.
4. October 19, 2004: Alex Rodriguez is called out for interference when he bitch slaps Boston pitcher Bronson Arroyo’s glove and knocks the ball loose during a play near first base in the eighth inning of Game 6 of the AL Championship Series.
5. October 4, 1955: The Brooklyn Dodgers defeat the Yankees 2-0. Johnny Podres pitches his second complete game of the series.
6. October 28, 1981: Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Yankees 9-2 to win the World Series. George Frazier loses his third game of the series. Steve Howe earns the save.
7. June 16, 1997: The Mets’ Dave Mlicki shuts out the Yankees, 6- 0, in the first Interleague game between the two clubs.
8. July 20, 1995: Jack McDowell sticks his middle finger at the Yankee Stadium crowd, and twirls it around.
9. December 22, 2004: Carl Pavano is welcomed by Manager Joe Torre at a press conference announcing a four-year deal worth about $40 million.
10. June 11, 2003: Six Houston Astros pitchers (Roy Oswalt, Pete Monro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner) no hit the Bronx Bombers 8-0.
11. August 31, 2004: The Cleveland Indians defeat New York 22-0 in the largest loss in the 101-year history of the Yankees.
12. August 25, 1952: Virgil Trucks and the Detroit Tigers no hit the Yankees by a score of 1 to 2.
13. September 21, 2008:: New York Yankees play their final game at Yankee Stadium, well out of playoff contention.

if only zimmer had gotten choke slammed in the bronx and not at fenway he could have been top 5 material.

Good to see that the same old Mets-fan jealousy and resentment will outlive the stadium. Classy.
