Bursting onto the scene like a pack of Pop Rocks last year, the Jacksonville, FL-based Black Kids scored big by releasing their EP Wizards of Ahhs including their hit “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You” for free on MySpace. Zoom in less than a year later (that’s now, people), and the band is capitalizing on their web fame by releasing their first full length album entitled Partie Traumatic.
Packed with mindless fun pop songs (one after the other), the group has released the best 1980s album to come out long after that Teddy Ruxpin decade. With cuts like “Hit the Heartbreaks,” “Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo), and a re-recorded version of “Boyfriend,” the group’s sound is infectious. Who needs earth-shattering lyrics when you have New Wave guitars and synthesizers at the very core of each song. Rock out your charm bracelets and put on your awkward dancing shoes for this highly addictive album which sounds as if you threw in New Order, ABC, a splash of Prince, and dare we even say it, The Human League into a blender, and poured it into your cd player. How’s that for a visual?
